So Neru's Blog was a creative writing project I wrote between August and November of 2025. It was exactly what it sounds like. I wrote a regular blog in character as Akita Neru. She'd make random shitposts, comment on media, and gripe about the world, but the most fun posts were the ones where she recounted time she spent with her friends.
Neru's blog was the first Quadruple Baka project I made, unless you count my music video for "False Idol" where I alluded to it. That's kinda the only reason the blog existed, actually. I had a bunch of unfinished scripts for Quadruple Baka talkloid and Quadruple Baka songs and stuff, but it was all taking so long and I wanted to do something with my versions of these characters, so when the idea of an in-character blog just popped into my head, I had the first post out by the end of that afternoon.
Neru was the natural choice for the diagetic writer. Miku doesn't understand enough of what happens around her to convey things well, Haku would spend the entire time self-depricating, and Teto would be fine, but her force of chaos persona would be largely undercut if she was the narrator. Neru tho almost never lies or embelishes, and she's judgemental of everything, which is funny. The other three would also be pretty nice to a theoretical reader, which makes me uncomfortable for some reason. I'd much rather write the character who openly insults her readers and doesn't give a second thought to what any of them think. What does that say about you, theoretical reader of this blog post? I have no idea. I, Kay L. Emily, don't openly dispise you. But I enjoyed writing a blog as a character who does. Take that as you will.
Writing for Neru's Blog was fun. I enjoyed letting my actual shy self drop and getting to play the role of a complete bitch /positive. As I mentioned above the most fun parts were where I showed Neru's thoughts on her friends, both the rest of the main cast; Miku, Teto, and Haku; and Neru's two ultraclose best friends in Rei and Flower. (Semicolons can be used that way, right?). I do miss those two in particular. Nowadays, without Neru as the narrator of Quadruple Baka stories, I've had trouble bringing in the oddball trio (Neru, Rei, and Flower) as often as I'd like.
And that leads me to the actual point of this post. Why Neru's Blog stopped. There were four main reasons:
1. The blog was a bad way to tell Quadruple Baka stories
Neru is a fun narrator for a blog post in and of itself, but for the wider stories I started to want to tell I was feeling the limitations. I said Neru rarely lies, and that's the truth, but Neru does have a bit of Miku's problem of not fully understanding the world. She's incredibley smart, and incredibley observant, to the point she can see through the fourth wall, but she has a lot of trouble understanding emotions, and particularly her own.
This was especially a problem for the love story I want to tell between Neru and Haku. I threw in tons of unsubtle hints across the blog, but since Neru doesn't realize she likes Haku, or vice versa, it's hard for me to get it across well. The thing about my headcanon Neru and Haku dynamic is that it's stupidly obvious and over the top, like Love is War but if the characters were even worse at hiding it than they already are. And that comedy is just hard to get across of any single character's account, especially Neru's.
2. The way I wanted to characterize the story was changing
I rushed putting out Neru's blog before I had really developed the Quadruple Baka characters fully. At the time, Teto was going to be the voice of reason instead of the chaos gremlin, Miku's stupid side hadn't really be established, and Haku didn't have her overthinking social anxiety, she was just kinda shy. Neru herself didn't have her emotional stuntedness yet, she was just cynical.
As a result, when I did start writing out those personalities for them, Neru's Blog started to feel out of date, and there were established events in the blog that didn't feel like they could happen with the new characters. Most importantly, Neru didn't seem like the kind of person who would choose to run a blog.
3. The line between Kay and Neru was getting thin
Largely as a result of problem 2, I was having more and more trouble getting into character. Particularly, when I'd comment about real-world media, which used to be a fun source of bits and things for the characters to play off, I started getting really uncomfortable. I stopped being able to see stories through Neru's eyes and write a blog post about them through Neru's words, because the way I thought of her had changed to someone who wouldn't think to write a blog post in the first place. There are a couple posts towards the end of the blog's run that are basically written by me. I still refer to myself as Neru and use a couple of her phrases, but it's just me writing, without a lot of character. That was really when I decided to end things.
4. I was just out of ideas
Simple as that. It was related to all the other points in some way. I ran out of stories I could tell in the limited frame. I ran out of things I could make the new characters do. I ran out of ideas for what Neru would write about.
So I guess the reason the blog stopped was because Neru as a person changed and didn't want to write a blog anymore. Metaphorically of course, but that is how I present it in the in-character notice of termination or whatever I called it.
That notice also says Neru will be back at some point. I'm not sure if that's true. Like I said, Neru isn't the type to write a blog anymore. And the other characters still have the problems I mentioned above. But I would like to write in character as one of them, at some point. A blog doesn't make sense. Having Neru as a character writing material adressed to a readerbase of real people is a bit odd and too much for me to handle long term I think. But something like: Haku's journal entries? Texts between the oddball trio? Adachi Rei's activity logs? (Which are just journal entries but robot). I feel like trying one of those at some point.
For now tho, I've started this! A real blog by a real person addressed to (theoretical) real readers about real things. I don't need to worry about breaking character here. Apparently, I am the type of person to choose to run a blog. And who knows, maybe at some point I'll have Neru write a post or two.
But anyway uh hi welcome to my blog.
